Conquering Mt. Batulao

Climb a mountain. I never trek before in my life and the invite to “climb a mountain” sounded like a challenge. Mt. Batulao is located in Batangas, this mountain is good for trekking by beginners like me. This was my first climb and it has been worth the try.

We did a night hike. We are a group of maybe 25-28 members (I forgot our exact count). So this is a good experience for me. I get to climb a mountain, do a night hike, camp and sleep in the mountains and meet new people.

This climb happened the last week of January 2014 and we had a cold weather in the city of Manila, imagine how cold it has been up the mountains. We are not able to get the temperature but I had to wear two jackets that night and a bit of help from the alcohol we brought.

Waking up has been breath-taking. Fresh air and a wonderful sight of nature welcomes the new day.

Not sure if you can, but do you notice those people lining up? What for? That’s the toilet. Yup! There’s one in Batulao. There’s no flush or what so ever but there’s a sign that users can pay 10php for a bucket of water.

After eating breakfast and cleaning our mess.. it’s time to continue what we are here for.

There’s this part that is too steep that we use a rope to pull ourselves up.

Well I guess it’s safe to say that you are close to the peak once you reach this part.

And yes, there it is… the light at the end of the tunnel!

Now, the challenge for me is the trail going down the peak. I discovered that my knees and my grip do better when I am climbing up but going down is a whole different story. Or maybe I am just scared to fall.

But you know what, I enjoyed this trip and this challenge. Another experience I will never forget. 🙂
